Panchamrit is a mixture of five foods used in Hindu worship and puja which are usually honey, liquid jaggery, cow milk, yogurt and ghee. These are considered to be the sustenance for life

Made from diverse ingredients, Panchamrut or Panchamrit is one of the most important elements of any rituals performed as per the Hindu way of life. We use it during the rituals and also as a prasadam on several instances.

As per the Sanskrit language, the word, ‘panch’ means ‘five’ and ‘amrit’ means ‘the elixir of gods’. Furthermore, because Panchamrit is also bestowed at the feet of deities, it is many times known as Charnamrit as well.

Each of the traditional ingredients has symbolic significance:

  • Milk – piousness and purity
  • Curd – prosperity and progeny
  • Honey – unity and sweet speech
  • Sugar – bliss
  • Ghee – victory and knowledge

There is ratio of adding ingredients in Panchamrit.

  • First we will take Cow’s Milk.
  • Then Secondly, Half the quantity of the Milk , Curd is added into this.
  • Then half the quantity of Curd , Sugar is added insted of sugar some people add jaggery Powder also.
  • Half the quantity of sugar honey is added, Then half the quantity of honey Ghee is added .
  • This is the ratio in with the five ingredients are added.

Apart from these must have ingredients, dry fruits and tulsi leaves are also added to this prasad.

Panchamrit is an traditional recipe used in Hindiu religious functions.

Ingredients

  • 5 tbsp Cow's Milk
  • 2.5 tbsp Curd
  • 4 tsp Sugar
  • 2 tsp Honey
  • 1 tsp Ghee

Instructions

  • Mix all the ingredients in a bowl .Keep refrigerated.
  • Serve garnished with Tulsi Leaves

Notes

  • Use only cow’s milk and yogurt to make panchamrit.
  • Make it 30 minutes prior to use and refrigerate until ready to serve.
