Dhaniya Panjiri – Prasad For Krishna Janmashtami

On the auspicious occasion of Krishna Janmashtami, prepare a wholesome and nutritious Dhaniya Panjiri that is loaded with healthy nuts and comes together in just 15 minutes.
Dhaniya panjiri a traditional sweet is prepared on Krishna Janmashtami. This aromatic naivedyam or prasad (offering) is a quick and straightforward recipe that is prepared with basic ingredients that one always have in their pantry.
Ingredients:
It is made from coriander seed powder, bhoora (powdered sugar), ghee, chopped nuts and Coconut . All you need to do is to roast the seeds and grind them in a blender and make a powder. Add ghee in a pan and saute the powder in ghee until it turns aromatic . Transfer the coriander panjiri on a plate and let it cool and then add sugar to it. Mix well and add dry fruits to it.

Dhaniya Panjiri is not served as it is, but it is often served with Panchamrit, a sweetened drink and sliced bananas. Panchamrit is made with milk, yogurt, Sugar, honey, Desi ghee . It is a light drink that helps you take the panjiri without it sticking to your mouth. The significance of this prasad not only remains religiously important but is also healthy. No wonder it is used widely as an offering across the country during Janmashtami.

Dhaniya Panjiri
Ingredients
- 1 Cup Coriander Powder/ Dhaniya Powder
- 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 1/4 Cup Makhana / Fox Nuts
- 1/4 Cup Cashew Nuts
- 1 tbsp Raisins
- 1/2 tsp Green Cardamon Powder
- 1/2 Cup Coconut grated
- 2 tbsp Desi Ghee
- Nuts of your choice optional
Instructions
- Heat 1 tablespoon ghee in a pan and toast phool makhane and all the nuts until light brown. Keep stirring until the nuts are toasted. Remove and set it aside.
- In the same pan add the remaining ghee and add coriander powder.
- Cook the coriander powder on a medium-low flame until it starts emitting its aroma.
- Once done, take it off the flame. Let it cool completely.
- Add roasted nuts, Raisins, Green Cardamom powder, Grated Coconut and Powdered Sugar.
- Adjust Sugar according to your taste. Mix Well.
- Panjiri is ready to serve.
Notes
- Coriander powder may leave a slight bitter taste to this panjiri. feel free to add 1/2 cup of crumbled mawa to the panjiri but that is again optional. Traditional recipe doesn’t call for mawa, it’s made without mawa. If you choose to add mawa, adjust sugar
- You can use the nuts according to your taste.
