In Maharashtra, the modak made from mawa is known as khavyache modak.

Mawa Modak recipe is an easy and quick recipe to prepare a delicious Modak. Modak is an Indian sweet usually made on the holy festival Ganesh Chaturthi and served as the form of Prasad to Lord Ganesha. You can find many types of modak available in the market: steamed modak, chocolate modak, fried modak and many more.

Mawa Modak is easier to make than the traditional Modak, as you need to add the Modak mixture into the Modak mould and make it, so it saves your time, and you can make it quickly. You can also store it in the refrigerator for a week. 

Main Ingredient of this Recipe is Mawa/Khoya . You can use store brought Mawa also but i am sharing the recipe of Instant Mawa with milk Powder which can be prepared in 5 minutes.

Mawa from milk powder

This instant mawa or khoya made from milk powder can be used in making many sweet dishes like peda, burfi, ladoos, ghujiya, mohanthal, gajar ka halwa, dhudhi ka halwa and many more. It also can be used in making curries such as khoya kaju. You can crumble it or grate it as per the requirement of the recipe. This mawa/khoya can be refrigerated and used for 8-10 days.

Hany Tips :

  • I used Cashew, Almond and Pistachios. You can use any nuts of your choice.
  • You can even toast the nuts and powder it.
  • Make sure the khoya mixture comes together before you switch off else you cannot shape it.
  • If it doesn’t come together,cook for few more mins.
  • You can even stuff it up with dry fruits nuts mixture.

Easy Mawa Modak recipe | Mawa Modak – Ganesh Chaturthi Special

Celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi with the preparation of this quick, easy and delicious Khoya / Mawa Modak.

Ingredients

  • 2 tbsp Butter / Ghee
  • 1/4 Cup Cream
  • 1/2 Cup Milk
  • 1 Cup Milk Powder
  • 1 tsp Pistachios chopped
  • 1 tbsp Almonds chopped
  • 2 tbsp Sugar

Instructions

  • Add Butter/ Ghee to a well heated pan .
  • As it melts add 1/4 Cup Cream.
  • Mix till it is smooth.
  • Add milk and allow it to boil.
  • Once the mixture starts to boil add milk powder.
  • Keep stirring constantly on medium low flame.
  • Cook until the mixture becomes thick like mawa.
  • Transfer it to a bowl and let it cool.
  • Add Saffron milk and mix well.
  • Add chopped dry fruits and sugar.Mix Well.
  • Grease the Modak Mould with butter or dust with Powdered sugar.
  • Put some Mawa mixture on both the sides of the mould.
  • In the center add raisins and dry fruits of your choice.
  • Sprinkle some green cardamom powder . you can add this in the mawa mixture also.
  • Close the mould and remove the excess Mawa Mixture from it.
  • Open the mould and thake out the modak from the mould.
  • Modaks are ready to be offered to Lord Ganesha.

Notes

  • Always cook on medium- low flame while stirring it continuously, else the mawa might burn.
  • Never add sugar while the mawa is still hot, else the mixture will become very soft and runny.
  • If the modak mixture sticks to your hand or mould then apply some ghee on it.
  • If the mixture turns very soft and you are unable to shape the modaks then put it in the refrigerator for couple of hours and it will firm up.
